NYPD Commissioner to Keynote ISC West
Bernard Kerik, police commissioner for the N.Y. Police Department and adviser
to New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani during the terrorist attacks of 2001, is
the scheduled keynote speaker for the ISC West show in Las Vegas March 30-April
2. The event, sponsored by the Security Industry Association (SIA) and the
California Alarm Association, will be held at the Sands Expo and Convention
Center and is expected to draw more than 20,000 attendees.
When the two hijacked airliners struck the World Trade Center, Kerik was at
the scene within minutes. Kerik’s first-hand experience will provide a unique
discussion of the indescribable. After the attacks, Kerik worked with Giuliani
to coordinate rescue efforts, ensure the New York City’s safety and to
reassure America. ISC West calls Kerik “candid and inspirational” as he
relates the lessons of his experiences with leadership challenges face.
Kerik most recently served as senior policy adviser to the U.S.
Presidential Envoy to Iraq and Iraq’s Interim Minister of Interior. He was
charged with rebuilding Iraq’s police, fire, emergency services, customs and
immigration, and border force, arriving in Baghdad just days after coalition
forces invaded the city.
Finally, as New York City’s 40th police commissioner, Kerik managed a $3.2
billion budget, led 55,000 employees and reduced crime by 12 percent. Prior to
that, he worked in anti-terrorism and spent several years in the Middle East.
Two years ago, Queen Elizabeth II made Kerik an honorary Commander of the
British Empire.
Kerik is set to speak 9 a.m. March 31 at ISC West.
Dozens of other seminars and activities are scheduled for the threeday expo.
They range from a limited-availability tour of the Stratosphere Hotel to
conferences on “Situational Crime Prevention” and “Demystifying Digital
CCTV” to a workshop on non-lethal weapons.
Further, exhibitors will be on hand to display the latest trends and advances
in security technology. A full list of scheduled exhibitors is available at

Sears Tower operating efficiently,” Sears Tower officials said. More than
10,000 people work in the building, with thousands more visiting daily.
Villarreal, who works for Trizec Properties Inc., which manages Sears Tower

property developer Larry Silverstein in mid-February awarded the contract for
the 47- story building’s integrated security system to Diversified Security
Solutions Inc.’s Henry Bros.
Electronics (HBE) subsidiary. The contract value totals $3.3
million and includes CCTV, biometric access control and turnstiles.
James Henry, CEO of Diversified Security Solutions, says, “We
are very excited at the opportunity to be a part of the historic reconstruction
of 7 World Trade Center.” He adds that the job begins as Diversified is
completing reconstruction on the security system at the new temporary PATH train
station at Ground Zero.
Developer Silverstein says, “We are pleased to have
Diversified Security Solutions Inc. as part of our team in the reconstruction of
7 World Trade Center.”
7 World Trade Center collapsed at 5 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2001,
after the hijacked planes slammed into the nearby twin towers. None of the
tragedy’s 3,000 victims was inside 7 World Trade Center, which caught fire
before toppling. It is the first of the World Trade Center complex buildings to
be rebuilt and reopened for business since the terrorist attacks.
